Seasoned progressive legislator Andrea Salinas is a freshman Member of Congress representing the southwestern Portland suburbs and Salem in the House.
Salinas started her career serving as a legislative aide for Harry Reid, Pete Stark and Darlene Hooley. She later became a local political consultant before being appointed to a vacant seat in the Oregon House.
Salinas centered her congressional campaign around protecting the right to organize, fighting for affordable healthcare, and safeguarding a woman’s right to choose.
In conversations with J Street, Salinas made clear her strong support for Israeli security and Palestinian self-determination and her opposition to actions that could bring peace further out of reach. She backs a diplomatic solution to the Iran nuclear crisis that would block its path to a bomb and avoid a potentially catastrophic war of choice.
