  • 1st District, rhode island

Progressive advocate David Cicilline represents Rhode Island’s First Congressional District, which includes most of the city of Providence. A lifelong public servant, he spent two decades in local Rhode Island politics before being elected to the US House in 2010.

Cicilline has led the charge on some of the most significant progressive legislation over the last decade. He authored Equality Act – a comprehensive civil rights bill banning discrimination against the LGBTQ community that passed the House – introduced the Assault Weapons Ban Act with a record number of cosponsors, and championed the passage of immigration reform and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

As a senior member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Cicilline has been a leader on international human rights and has advocated for a comprehensive, balanced approach to the full range of national security challenges.

Cicilline is Jewish and a J Street champion. In the last Congress, he supported the vast majority of J Street's legislative priorities. He was an early sponsor of the 2020 H.Res. 326, which put Congress on the record supporting a two-state solution and opposing annexation.
