Donald Payne Jr.

  • Endorsed
  • 10th District, new jersey

Donald Payne Jr. has represented Newark in the House since 2012. His father, Donald M. Payne, held the seat from 1988 until his passing in 2012.

Payne previously served on the Municipal Council of Newark and the Essex County Board of Freeholders.

During his time in the House, Payne has co-sponsored the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 and the Paycheck Fairness Act, a bill aimed at expanding the scope of the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and Fair Labor Standards Act.

Payne serves on the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. He is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Rep. Payne has been a strong, consistent ally of J Street’s in Congress.

He supported the President Obama's Iran deal, which verifiably blocked Iran's path to nuclear weapons. He was an early co-sponsor of H.R. 326, which reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to the two-state solution and opposed settlement expansion and annexation.
