Fred Wellman

Fred Wellman is a retired Army officer, veterans advocate, and entrepreneur running for Missouri’s 2nd Congressional District.

He is a West Point graduate and Army aviator who served over 22-years in uniform. Wellman flew OH-58 helicopters and led a scout platoon in Operation Desert Storm. He briefly left Active Duty but after 9/11, returned to the Regular Army and deployed with the 101st Airborne during the opening phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He would serve two more tours in Iraq as a spokesman and trainer for the Iraqi Security Forces under Generals David Petraeus and future Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Marty Dempsey.

Between his third and fourth combat tours, Wellman attended the Harvard Kennedy School as a Presidential Scholar and Center for Public Leadership Fellow, graduating with honors as a Lucious N. Littaur Fellow for outstanding academic achievement, leadership and future public service. Upon retirement from the Army he founded ScoutComms, a Public Benefit Corporation serving veterans and military families. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led a field hospital in New York City and later served as Executive Director of the Lincoln Project. Today, he hosts a popular pro-democracy podcast on the MeidasTouch Network.
