Rep. Hakeem Jeffries represents New York's Brooklyn-based 8th Congressional District. First elected in 2013, Jeffries quickly rose within the ranks of the Democratic Party. In 2018, he became Chair of the House Democratic Caucus.
In 2022, Jeffries was unanimously elected as the House Democratic Leader, succeeding Nancy Pelosi and becoming the first African American to lead a party caucus in either chamber of Congress. Jeffries has also served as the Whip of the Congressional Black Caucus and Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.
