Harry Dunn was on the front lines defending democracy on January 6 as a Capitol Hill Police Officer. In Congress, we know he'll continue to fight proudly for our democratic values.

Dunn was born and raised in Clinton, Maryland. He attended James Madison University, where he studied public health and played college football for the James Madison Dukes.

In 2008, Dunn joined the United States Capitol Police. On January 6 2021, Officer Harry Dunn donned his bulletproof vest and responded to a call at the West terrace of the Capitol Building.

The sight shocked him. Trump supporters assaulting bloodied officers with flagpoles and metal bike racks. Pepper spray heavy in the air. He rushed into the melee. For hours he fended off rioters, helped the injured, and endured an onslaught of racial abuse as he defended our democracy.

After the Capitol was breached, he was called inside to guard a stairwell with injured officers and to guard Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office. Dunn said that by the end of the day, his fists were bloody from fighting with rioters.

Dunn advocated for the creation of a January 6 commission, to investigate the attack in a method similar to the 9/11 Commission. He was in attendance when the US House approved the formation of the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack. He testified to the committee in its preliminary hearing, and also testified in the 2022 trial of the Oath Keepers for seditious conspiracy for their actions relating to the Capitol attack. Along with other officers who protected the Capitol during the attack, Dunn was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, and later with a Presidential Citizens Medal by President Biden.

He is now running for Congress to defend our country’s democratic values and is closely aligned with J Street's values, principles and positions. He supports US aid to Israel in addition to humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, including to the UN agencies that serve Palestinians. He is a strong supporter of a two state solution and believes that “in order to shape the conditions to achieve peace, we must call out any unilateral actions that obstruct the path toward a two-state solution, including the annexation of territory and unprovoked violence by settlers in the West Bank.”
