J Street champion Joaquin Castro has represented parts of San Antonio and its exurbs since 2013. He and his identical twin brother, Julian, have been heralded as future leaders of the Democratic party.

Castro has quickly climbed through the ranks of the Democratic Party. He was named a Chief Deputy Whip in 2015 and was selected as the chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in 2017. During his time in office, Castro has focused his efforts on fiscal responsibility, education and expanding health care.

Castro serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Committee on Education and Labor.

Castro is a champion of J Street’s policies and values.

Castro was an original co-sponsor of H.R. 5344, the Two State Solution Act — a milestone piece of legislation which presented various mechanisms for bringing about an eventual peace. In June 2022, Castro led the Price-Lee-Wexton-Castro letter which pushed back against “flashpoints” in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including settlement expansion, annexation and incitement to violence against Israelis and Palestinians.

Congressman Castro supported President Obama's Iran deal, which verifiably blocked Iran's path to nuclear weapons, and has publicly stated on many occasions that diplomacy is the best and most effective path to constraining Iran’s nuclear program.
