Julie Johnson was elected to Congress in 2024, holding the distinction of being the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Texas.
Prior to running for Congress, she served in the Texas State Legislature after defeating GOP incumbent Matt Rinaldi in 2018. During her time in the Texas legislature, she passed 108 bills with a focus on patient protection and insurance reform. Johnson also authored the first bipartisan Medicaid expansion bill in Texas history. Johnson worked as an attorney before running for the Texas legislature.
