Katie Porter

  • Primary Approved
  • Senate, california

Katie Porter is one of three JStreetPAC 'Primary Approved' candidates running to fill retiring Senator Dianne Feinstein's California Senate seat in the March 5, 2024 Democratic primary. Competitors Barbara Lee and Adam Schiff are also primary approved.

An up-and-coming progressive superstar, Porter notched a high-profile victory in 2018, flipping a formerly deep-red seat in Orange County, and has become renowned for wielding a whiteboard on the House floor.

With her seat remaining one of the most competitive in the country, Porter has become a powerhouse progressive communicator. The former law school professor has gone viral repeatedly in clips of her taking on corporate interests while she uses a dry-erase board to outline key facts and figures.

One of the few single mothers of young children in Congress, she’s a prominent voice for working families and is well known for her comprehensive questioning of officials during congressional hearings. She also serves as the deputy chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Rep. Porter is closely aligned with J Street, speaking at J Street’s virtual National Conference in 2021.

She expressed early support for H.Res. 326, reaffirming congressional backing for a two-state solution and opposition to settlement expansion and annexation. Porter supports full security aid to the Israelis and humanitarian and development assistance to the Palestinians, and urged President Biden to press for an immediate ceasefire during the 2021 Gaza escalation.

Porter voiced support for President Obama’s nuclear agreement with Iran – which blocked their path to a nuclear weapon – and spoke out against President Trump’s withdrawal from the deal. She voted in favor of the 2020 War Powers Resolution aimed at preventing the Trump Administration from further escalating hostilities with Iran without congressional approval.
