Madeleine Dean

Representative Madeleine Dean, better known as Mad, has represented Berks and Montgomery Counties in Congress since 2018.

Dean was born and raised in Glenside, Pennsylvania. After graduating with her bachelor’s and JD degrees, she practiced law in Philadelphia, eventually serving as the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association. In 2001, she became a professor at her alma mater, LaSalle University, teaching composition, rhetoric and legal writing. She ran for Pennsylvania State House in 2012, serving until her election to US Congress in 2018.

Representative Dean sits on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Representative Dean is a strong ally of J Street.

In June of 2021, she signed Rep. Raskin’s letter urging Sen. Jim Risch to stop blocking millions of dollars in humanitarian aid for Palestinians. She also signed onto the bicameral Merkley-Stansbury letter calling on the Biden Administration to push back against the proposed demolitions in the West Bank communities of Masafer Yatta and the Price-Lee-Wexton-Castro letter which pushed back against “flashpoints” in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including settlement expansion, annexation and incitement to violence against Israelis and Palestinians.
