Maria Cantwell has served the state of Washington in the Senate since taking office in 2001.
Senator Cantwell got her start in politics working on a presidential campaign, after which she was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives from 1986-1992. She then served one term in the US House before being defeated in her re-election. After a hiatus from politics, she ran for Senate in 2000, winning one of the closest races in Washington state history -- it was the last race to be called that year.
Cantwell serves as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. She also serves on the Committees on Energy and Natural Resources, Finance, Indian Affairs and Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
Senator Cantwell is aligned with J Street values.
She stands against antisemitism and is a supporter of the two-state solution.
