Progressive champion Mark Takano has represented his Riverside district since 2012, when the Japanese-American Congressman made history as the first openly gay representative of Asian descent in Congress.
Takano serves as co-chair of the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus and is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Asian Pacific American Caucus. He also serves on the House Veterans Affairs Committee and the Education and Labor Committee.
Rep. Takano is a steadfast J Street ally.
He was one of the earliest co-sponsors of HR.326, a resolution reaffirming congressional commitment to the two-state solution and opposition settlement expansion and annexation.
Rep. Takano was a vocal supporter of President Obama's Iran deal, which verifiably blocked Iran's path to nuclear weapons, and he spoke out repeatedly against President Trump’s abandonment of the agreement. Takano voted to restrict President Trump’s powers to engage in unauthorized military action against Iran, warning of the high cost of war, the impact on troops and the potential for catastrophe.
