A champion of workers’ rights, Nikki Budzinski was elected in 2022 to represent the cities of Champaign and Springfield in Congress.

Prior to her election, Rep. Budzinski spent her professional career working in labor politics,  initially serving as national political director for United Food and Commercial Workers union. She was later named a senior advisor to Governor JB Pritzker, during which time she helped lead the successful campaign to raise the state's minimum wage to $15/hour. Budzinski was then named chief of staff for President Biden’s Office of Management and Budget, where she helped implement the American Rescue Plan to boost the economy following the pandemic.
