Progressive champion Raúl Grijalva has represented Tucson, Phoenix, Yuma and Nogales since his election in 2002. He is the dean of Arizona’s congressional delegation.
Grijalva began his political involvement as a member of Partido Nacional de La Raza Unida, a left-wing Chicano party that saw some success in the American Southwest. He was first elected to local office in 1974 as a member of the Tucson Unified School District.
A former co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Grijalva is consistently rated as one of the most progressive members of the House. He is a strong supporter of environmental protection, immigration reform and economic equality. He is also a staunch advocate for diplomacy-first foreign policy and was an outspoken supporter of President Obama's Iran deal, which verifiably blocked Iran's path to nuclear weapons.
In Congress, Rep. Grijalva has been a consistent supporter of J Street’s priorities.
He signed the bicameral Merkley-Stansbury letter which pushed back against proposed evictions in the West Bank communities of Masafer Yatta. Grijalva also signed the 2022 Pocan-Schakowsky letter which vigorously opposed the proposed construction of the E-1 settlement (which was subsequently postponed).
