Sharif Street is a State Senator running to represent Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District.
In 2016, Street became the first Muslim elected to the Pennsylvania Senate and has since been re-elected twice. In the State Senate, he helped create the law that established Pennsylvania’s state-based health insurance exchange, making healthcare more accessible and affordable for thousands of families.
Before being elected to the State Senate, Street served as Chief Legislative Advisor to the Democratic Chair of the Pennsylvania Senate’s Housing and Urban Development Committee. In 2022, he became the first Black man and first Muslim to serve as Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, following his tenure as vice chair from 2018 to 2022. He began his career as a community activist, organizing a Town Watch group while in law school.
