The former Virginia Governor and Vice Presidential nominee, Tim Kaine has served in the Senate since 2012. He serves alongside fellow Virginia Senator Mark Warner, whom he also worked with as Lieutenant Governor when Warner was governor.
As a member of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee and the Armed Services Committee, Kaine has been outspoken in advancing his vision of a pro-democracy “grand strategy” of foreign policy leadership.
Senator Kaine is a top J Street ally in the Senate.
Kaine has taken an active role in promoting peace, equality, democracy and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians, including pushing back on acts of terror and indiscriminate rocket fire, as well as violations of international law such as demolitions, settlement expansion and unilateral annexation.
In 2021, Kaine led a Senate letter with Senator Chris Murphy calling on the Biden Administration to re-enter President Obama’s 2015 Iran deal, which verifiably blocked the Iranian government from developing nuclear weapons. In 2019, Kaine introduced an amendment to a defense spending authorization bill that clarified that President Trump did not have congressional authorization to initiate a war with Iran.
