The daughter of a former New York City Council Member, progressive stalwart Yvette Clarke has represented the voters of Central Brooklyn since 2007.
Born to a Jamaican immigrant, Clarke has been a vocal advocate for the rights of immigrants, including supporting the DREAM Act and President Obama’s DACA program.
She is the co-chair of the Congressional Caribbean Caucus, the first vice chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
Clarke sits on the Committee on Energy and Commerce, where she previously served as vice chair.
Clarke is a strong supporter of the pro-Israel, pro-peace movement. Rep. Clarke was an advocate for President Obama's Iran deal, which verifiably blocked Iran's path to nuclear weapons. She was an early co-sponsor of H.R. 326, which reaffirmed Congress’s commitment to a two-state solution and opposed settlement expansion and annexation.
