She then joined the University of Iowa law faculty; and served a term in the Iowa House of Representatives.

Lanon is the son of Laotian immigrants who settled in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Lanon was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, and at age 17, enlisted in the Iowa National Guard. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2004 as a combat engineer, focusing on explosive demolitions and force protection in and around Kandahar.  Following his service, Baccam graduated from Drake University and worked for the US Department of Agriculture.
