Chris Coons is the senior Senator serving Delaware. First elected in 2010, Coons is one of the most distinguished leaders on foreign policy in the chamber.
Prior to being elected to the Senate, Coons served in New Castle County government as New Castle County Council President and New Castle County Executive and worked as an attorney for Delaware-based W.L. Gore & Associates. He also worked for the “I Have a Dream” Foundation, and with the National Coalition for the Homeless.
Coons is a graduate of Amherst College with bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and political science. He earned a law degree from Yale Law School while simultaneously earning a master’s degree in ethics from Yale Divinity School.
