President Joseph R. Biden is the 46th President of the United States and a stalwart ally of the pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy movement. Throughout his career, he has been a steadfast supporter of the US-Israel relationship and a leading advocate for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
President Biden's commitment to Israel dates back to his early years in the Senate, where he worked to strengthen US-Israel ties and ensure Israel's security.
As Vice President under President Obama, Biden continued to be a key player in US-Israel relations, leading efforts to deepen cooperation on security and defense and promoting economic ties between the two countries. He was a leading advocate of President Obama's Iran deal, which verifiably blocked the country's path to a nuclear weapon. J Street was thrilled to welcome the Vice President as a keynote speaker at our 2013 National Conference and 2016 National Gala.
Since taking office, President Biden has taken several significant steps to advance peace and stability in the Middle East after a disastrous four years of President Trump.
President Biden has reaffirmed the US commitment to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and consistently made clear that both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples equally deserve to live safely and securely and deserve equal measures of freedom, dignity, justice and prosperity. The Biden administration has re-engaged with Palestinian leaders, including through a restoration of diplomatic relations and renewed aid to the Palestinian people. And his administration has re-emphasized the importance of tough diplomacy to reimpose restraints on the Iranian nuclear program and prevent Iran from ever developing a nuclear weapon.
President Biden has pushed back on Prime Minister Netanyahu's anti-democratic efforts to weaken the rule of law and undermine the independence of Israel’s judiciary. “Like many strong supporters of Israel I’m very concerned, and I’m concerned that they get this straight,” he told reporters in April 2023. “They cannot continue down this road, and I’ve sort of made that clear[...] They know my position. They know America’s position. They know the American Jewish position.”
JStreetPAC was proud to support President Biden’s campaign in 2020, the organization’s first-ever endorsement of a presidential candidate. “J Street has been a powerful voice to advance social justice here at home, and to advocate for a two-state solution that advances Middle East peace,” Biden said, welcoming the endorsement. “I share with J Street’s membership an unyielding dedication to the survival and security of Israel, and an equal commitment to creating a future of peace and opportunity for Israeli and Palestinian children alike.”
JStreetPAC was proud to raise over $2 million for the Biden-Harris campaign in that election.
As President, Joe Biden will continue to be a strong and reliable partner for Israel and Israeli democracy, while also working to achieve a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians. He is a great friend to the American Jewish community and to all who believe in a pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy agenda.
