Lateefah Simon is running for California's 12th Congressional District, which retiring Congresswoman Barbara Lee is vacating at the end of this term. Simon has a long career in activism and is a nationally recognized voice for civil rights and social justice.

Born and raised in San Fransisco, Simon became an outreach worker at the Young Women’s Freedom Center, and at age 19 she was named the center’s executive director. Simon led the "Back on Track" initiative, which was a highly effective reentry initiative for young adults charged with low-level offenses. During this project, Simon worked with then-district attorney Kamala Harris.

In 2016, Simon was elected to the Bay Area Rapid Transit Board of Directors. Being born legally blind, Simon relied on public transit all her life, ingraining in her a deep appreciation for the necessity of public transportation. She graduated from Mills College with a B.A. in Public Policy and later earned her MPA from the University of San Francisco.

Simon believes in a strong US-Israel relationship built on shared values of democracy. She believes that "The U.S. must adamantly maintain its bipartisan commitment to stability and peace in the region." Simon firmly opposes "incitement, any unilateral annexation of West Bank territory, and acts that entrench the occupation like settlement expansion."
