Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is a Democrat running to succeed Senator Tina Smith in representing Minnesota in the U.S. Senate.
Peggy was raised by a hardworking single mom who relied on Section 8, SNAP, and Medicaid to make ends meet. She knows the power of government that actually serves people.
Peggy served as the executive director of the Children’s Defense Fund–Minnesota, where she co-chaired the Raise the Wage Coalition, successfully pushing to raise Minnesota’s minimum wage for the first time in a decade.
In 2015, Flanagan was elected to the Minnesota state legislature. In 2017, when her party was in the minority, Peggy was one of only two DFLers to successfully chief author a bill that became law. Flanagan was elected Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota in 2018. As lieutenant governor, she helped pass paid and family medical leave, a nation-leading child tax credit, and free school meals in public schools.
Now, Peggy is running for Senate to stop Donald Trump from ransacking our government and making it harder for families, like the one she grew up in, to have a fair shot. At a time when Washington is more rigged than ever, Peggy will be a Senator who has the guts to take on our toughest fights and win for Minnesota families.
