Congressman Lloyd Doggett has represented his Austin-based district since 1995.
Rep. Doggett served as a member of the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. In 1989, he became an Associate Justice of the Texas Supreme Court. In Congress, Doggett has a consistent record as a progressive Democrat. He has described himself as a “stout” defender of Social Security, Medicare and public education. Doggett has also been an outspoken proponent of diplomacy-first foreign policy.
