Paige Cognetti, the Mayor of Scranton, and is running to unseat GOP incumbent Rob Bresnahan in Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District.
Cognetti was first elected Mayor in a 2019 special election, campaigning on an anti-corruption platform and defeating a scandal-plagued incumbent. Cognetti won reelection in 2021 by over 30 points. In 2024, President Biden appointed Cognetti to the United States Trade Representative's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.
Prior to becoming Mayor, Cognetti advised the Pennsylvania Auditor General. She also served in the Obama administration as a senior advisor to the Under Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Treasury Department.
