The former Chief Medical Officer of Sacramento, Ami Bera has represented voters northeast of the city since 2013. He came to national prominence after an upset victory against a Tea Party favorite.
Congressman Bera has sat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and previously served as Chair of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. He was also previously the Vice Chair of the House Committee on Space, Science, and Technology.
After graduating from medical school in 1991, Bera did his residency in internal medicine at California Pacific Medical Center, eventually becoming chief resident. He went on to practice medicine in the Sacramento area, serving in various leadership roles for MedClinic Medical Group.
