A champion of progressive, pro-diplomacy foreign policy, Chris Van Hollen was elected to the Senate in 2016, following a 14 year stretch in the House.
Senator Van Hollen is one of J Street's strongest champions in Congress. The Senator has led the pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy movement in Congress and often takes the helm on J Street-backed letters, resolutions and amendments.
Van Hollen is a champion for democratic reform. He has put forth a raft of measures to strengthen voting rights and combat corruption, including the Freedom to Vote Act, the DISCLOSE Act, the Restoring Integrity to Federal Elections Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Following the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol, Van Hollen called for Trump's "immediate removal" via the 25th Amendment, deeming his remaining in office a clear danger to US democracy. He chaired the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee from 2017-2019 and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) from 2007-2011.
