A fourth-generation Coloradan and former Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democrats, Rep. DeGette has represented the voters of Denver since 1997.
A staunch advocate for women’s health care, she is the co-chair of the Pro-Choice Caucus. During her time serving in the Colorado State Legislature, DeGette authored a law that guarantees Colorado women unobstructed access to abortion clinics and other medical care facilities. In Congress, she has opposed efforts to place restrictions on federal funding of abortions.
In 2021, she was named an impeachment manager during the second impeachment of Donald Trump.
DeGette sits on the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Committee on Natural Resources. She is also a member of the Women’s Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
Representative DeGette is a strong J Street ally. She has been a consistent supporter of fully funding US security aid to Israel as outlined in President Obama’s 10-year Memorandum of Understanding. In June 2022, DeGette signed the Price-Lee-Wexton-Castro letter which pushed back against “flashpoints” in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including settlement expansion, annexation and incitement to violence against Israelis and Palestinians.
