Eric Swalwell has represented the eastern San Francisco Bay Area since 2012, after his campaign for generational change scored an upset victory against a four-decade incumbent. Swalwell rose to national prominence during the 2020 Democratic primaries, running a campaign focused on stricter gun safety laws and other mainstream liberal priorities.
After graduating from the University of Maryland School of Law, he became a prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, where he led the Hate Crimes Unit. In 2010, Eric was elected to be a city councilmember in his hometown of Dublin.
Swalwell served eight years on the House Intelligence Committee where he was the chairman and ranking member on the subcommittee overseeing the CIA. He helped lead the House investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, and was additionally appointed as a House impeachment manager.
