Kristen McDonald Rivet is a sitting State Senator, now running for Congress in Michigan's 8th Congressional District, a swing district critical to winning back the House Majority. In fact, the district is one of only two in the country that is both rated a "toss-up" by Cook Political and an open seat.

Early in her career, McDonald Rivet served as the Executive Director of Michigan Head Start, Chief of Staff for Michigan’s Department of Education, and Vice President of the Skillman Foundation. In these roles, she worked to make big changes in Michigan to improve child care and education outcomes for children, revitalize communities, and increase youth development programs.

In 2022, McDonald Rivet was elected to the Michigan State Senate, where she is the first Democrat in over a decade and the first woman ever to represent the Great Lakes Bay Region. McDonald Rivet led the charge to pass the largest tax cut for working families in Michigan’s history, and she has introduced a plan to address the growing childcare crisis in our state. She has fought to protect abortion rights for women, and, in one of her first acts in the State Senate, passed a commonsense gun violence prevention bill that requires safe storage of firearms around children.

McDonald Rivet is now running for Congress in "toss-up" MI-08 to succeed retiring Representative Dan Kildee, a longtime friend and ally to J Street. In Congress, McDonald Rivet will similarly be an advocate for Israel and peace in the Middle East.
