  • 30th District, california

Laura Friedman is a State Assemblymember representing the Glendale area, where she was formerly Glendale City Councilmember and Mayor. During her time in office, Friedman has helped ban gun shows from being held on Glendale city property and across the street from schools. She has also authored legislation to add more affordable housing, end the fur trade in California, and introduce a state-level version of single-payer healthcare.

Laura Friedman is running for the CA-30 seat, being vacated by Rep. Adam Schiff, who is running for California's open Senate seat. In Congress, Friedman hopes to focus on progressive priorities like expanding health care access, mitigating the effects of climate change, and protecting women’s rights.

Friedman has committed to supporting J Street’s values in Congress. She is a leader in the California Legislative Jewish Caucus, and has been a major player in California’s fight against antisemitism. She supports “a two-state solution in which the Jewish State of Israel and a peaceful Palestinian state can co-exist.” In regards to the ongoing Gaza war, Friedman has demanded that Hamas “immediately release the hostages, lay down their arms, and their leadership [be] held accountable.” She also strongly believes that “Israel must do everything within its power to prevent civilian Palestinian casualties and ensure that the people of Gaza have humanitarian aid and access to water, electricity, safe-areas free from bombing, medical care and life-saving supplies.”
