Progressive champion Sheldon Whitehouse has represented the state of Rhode Island in the Senate since 2007.
Known as a fierce advocate for progressive values, Whitehouse is a thoughtful legislator capable of reaching across the aisle to achieve bipartisan solutions and results. He is a staunch defender of Social Security and Medicare, a tireless advocate for environmental protection, and a fierce opponent of corporate interests.
Whitehouse serves on the Committee for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Committee on Environment and Public Works, the Committee on Finance, the Committee on Budget and the Committee on the Judiciary.
Senator Whitehouse is a close ally of J Street.
Amid hostilities between Israelis and Palestinians, he signed a May 2021 letter calling for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict. That same month, Whitehouse signed a Van Hollen-Kaine-Murphy-Merkley led vehicle which called on the administration to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In 2021, Whitehouse joined a letter calling on the Biden Administration to return to President Obama's Iran deal, which verifiably blocked Iran's path to nuclear weapons.
