Tom Perriello is running for Virginia’s 5th Congressional District.
In 2008, Tom flipped one of Virginia's most conservative congressional districts by narrowly defeating GOP Rep. Virgil Goode by just 727 votes. In 2008, Tom provided a courageous vote for the passage of the Affordable Care Act. After leaving Congress, he served as President and CEO at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, and held two senior roles at the State Department roles in the Obama administration, serving as the U.S. Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region of Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Most recently, Perriello served as the U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, overseeing diplomatic efforts aimed at halting civil conflict, supporting civilian leadership and responding to mass famine and displacement. He resigned shortly before President Trump’s second inauguration.
