The former Chief Medical Officer of Sacramento, Ami Bera has represented voters northeast of the city since 2013. He came to national prominence after an upset victory against a Tea Party favorite.
Pressing for mainstream liberal priorities, Bera holds a leadership position in the New Democrat Coalition.
Congressman Bera has sat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and previously served as Chair of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. He was also previously the Vice Chair of the House Committee on Space, Science, and Technology.
Rep. Bera is a J Street ally.
He’s a strong supporter of US security aid to Israel and humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, including US funding for UNRWA. Bera co-sponsored H.Res. 326, reaffirming congressional support for the two-state solution and opposing annexation and settlement expansion.
