Gil Cisneros currently represents California’s 31st congressional district. Cisneros represented California’s 39th district from 2019-2021, and most recently, served as Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness in the Biden Administration.
Cisneros is a Navy veteran and education policy expert who has founded non-profits committed to strengthening public schools and improving access to college for students and veterans. After winning the lottery in 2010, Cisneros expanded his philanthropic work to promote a variety of education-based initiatives.
Cisneros is committed to representing J Street’s values in Congress. He is dedicated to achieving a lasting peace within the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a diplomatic solution. In his view, “the United States must act as a leader in the Middle East peace process” and play a strong role to facilitate negotiations. He also supports continued US aid to Israel, humanitarian aid to Gaza, and aid to the Palestinian Authority.
