Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, Pete Aguilar has represented his San Bernardino county district since flipping the seat blue in 2014.
Prior to his service in Congress, Pete Aguilar served as the Mayor of Redlands, California. Since his election, Representative Aguilar has shot up the ranks of leadership, earning the post of Chair of the House Democratic Caucus – the first Latino to do so, and the highest ranking Latino in Congress. He was chosen for the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.
Aguilar sits on the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on House Administration, in addition to his leadership in the Democratic Caucus. He is also a member of the New Democrat Coalition.
Rep. Aguilar is aligned with J Street values.
Amid hostilities between Israelis and Palestinians in May 2021, he signed a letter calling for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict. His focus on democracy at home and abroad informs his belief in a two-state solution.
