  • 1st District, oregon

Proud progressive Suzanne Bonamici has represented her Portland-area district since 2012.

Bonamici grew up in Michigan and moved to Oregon as a young adult. She put herself through college and law school at Lane Community College and then University of Oregon, respectively. After graduating with her JD, she became a consumer protection attorney for the FTC in Washington, DC. She moved back to Oregon in 1986 and was elected to the Oregon State House of Representatives in 2006. Two years later, she was elected to the State Senate.

Rep. Bonamici serves on the Education and Labor Committee, where she previously chaired the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Human Services. She also sits on the Committee on Science, Space and Technology and is the co-founder and co-chair of the STEM education caucus.

Representative Bonamici is a consistent J Street ally.

In June of 2021, she signed Rep. Raskin’s letter urging Sen. Jim Risch to stop blocking millions in humanitarian aid for Palestinians. She also signed the Price-Lee-Wexton-Castro letter which pushed back against “flashpoints” in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including settlement expansion, annexation and incitement to violence against Israelis and Palestinians.
